ADMISSION OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AT PROF. DR. ASSEN ZLATAROV UNIVERSITY, IN THE MASTER PROGRAM OF “MEDICINE”

COMMON TERMS

IMPORTANT!

Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov University – Burgas has no agreements concluded with companies and/or individuals for student recruitment. There are no representatives of Prof. Dr. Zlatarov University – Burgas who are officially authorized to recruit students.
The applicants are free to decide if they want to apply by themselves or to use the services of a recruiting company. The final ranking is not in any way influenced by the means the applicants apply (by themselves OR by the mediating companies).

Foreign citizens are admitted at Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov University – Burgas (AZU-Burgas) in accordance with the Higher Education Act (HEA) and the Ordinance on the State Requirements for Admission of Students at Higher Schools of the Republic of Bulgaria.

1) Foreign students should have completed secondary education giving them the right to apply to higher education institutions of the country where they have completed their secondary education

2) Foreign students should have studied and should have grades in Biology and Chemistry in their secondary education diploma.

  • For citizens from non-EU countries, the minimum GPA (Grade Point Average) in biology and chemistry of the applicant’s secondary education certificate may not be lower than 62% of the maximum in the assessment system in the country in which the applicant has acquired secondary education.
  • Applicants, which have studied subjects like Science, Additional Science and others, instead of Biology and Chemistry, should present a document (legalized, translated and certified), issued by their secondary school with the subject curriculum.

3) Foreign students should pass Entry exams in Biology and Chemistry in English or in Bulgarian

4) Foreign students should apply the necessary documents according to the deadlines:

  • All documents submitted to AZU-Burgas must be legalized and officially translated into Bulgarian language. The translation must be done and certified in accordance with the provisions of the international treaties of the Republic of Bulgaria with the state/country in which they were issued and, in the absence thereof, under the general order for translations, legalizations and certifications of documents and other papers. In case the applicants are not able to apply personally, they should present a letter of attorney, legalized and translated.
  • In cases where the translation into Bulgarian shall be done on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria (after the legalization of the relevant document), the translation must be done by an authorized translator included in the list of translators at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria. After that, the translation must be certified by notary in the Republic of Bulgaria.
  • Citizens from non-EU countries should have type D visa for Bulgaria.
    • The University Department of International Relations forwards the documents of the approved applicants to the Ministry of Education and Science in order a Visa for Long-Term Stay (type D) be issued
    • After receiving the Certificate from the Ministry of Education and Science, the applicants must submit their documents to the Embassy / Consulate of Republic of Bulgaria in order to receive a Long-Stay Visa (type D). After obtaining the Visa, the applicants can be enrolled at the University.

 5) Foreign students may study in the Medicine program in either Bulgarian or English language

  • Bulgarian language – accepted students who would like to be taught in Bulgarian, should attend a Bulgarian language preparatory course. Upon successful completion of all exams, the applicants will be awarded a Certificate for Language and Specialized Preparation. The applicants who have a good command of Bulgarian may pass an exam, without undertaking the Preparatory Course.
  • English language – the applicants who would like to be taught in English should prove their English B1 Level according to OEEP :
  1. by submitting one of the following:
  • Bilingual diploma from a language school where one of the languages of instruction is English, with a matriculation examination in English
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma
  • European Baccalaureate
  • Cambridge English Language Assessment;
  • IELTS Academic;
  • TOEFL iBT (computer-based test);
  • TOEFL PBT (paper-based test);
  • PTE Academic;
  • Michigan English Test (MET);
  1. Applicants who cannot submit one of the upper mentioned documents should pass the English B1 Level exam on the specified date.
  2. Applicants, who do not have the required level of English proficiency (minimum B1 level), may enroll in a Preparatory course in English language proficiency and specialized disciplines.
  3. For applicants who are citizens of the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), Ireland, the United States, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, as well as for applicants who completed their secondary education in these countries, English language certification or English language test is not required. Those applicants should submit a diploma for high school completion in the UK, Ireland, USA, Australia, Canada (English-speaking part) and New Zealand.

Applicants with dual citizenship

  1. Applicants with dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian and the other is from an EU member state or from EEA, will be admitted under the terms and conditions and within the due order as for the Bulgarian citizens (after an entrance exam in Biology and Chemistry, as for the Bulgarian candidate students).
  2. Applicants with dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian and the other is from an EU member state or from EEA, who have completed their secondary education in an EU member state or in EEA and who have chosen to study a major in English shall be admitted in accordance with Art. 21, Para 2 of the Higher Education Act by sitting an entrance exam in English language, and an entrance exam in Biology and Chemistry in English. Once admitted the students should pay an annual fee which is fixed for the Bulgarian students enrolled under a paid form of education plus the tuition fee for the program conducted in English. The amount of the fees due is set by a Decision of the Academic Council for the respective academic year.
  3. Applicants with dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian and the other is from a non-EU member state (third country), but who have completed their secondary education in the Republic of Bulgaria, regardless of their second nationality, shall be admitted under the terms and conditions and within the due order as for the Bulgarian citizens.
  4. Applicants with dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian and the other is from a non-EU member state (third country), who have completed their secondary education abroad, will be admitted under the terms and conditions and within the order determined for the non-EU member state citizens (third country), so they can pay 50% of the fee for the foreign citizens.
